Happy Birthday to our BIGGEST fan Ollie who is 7 today! Have a wonderful day big man!
It's been an exciting week! Our second book, Tummy Trouble at Roberts Farm, is nearly finished and as a taster I have posted up the first few pages of the story, along with some of the illustrations, onto the site. Make sure you check it out at Our Books. We would love your comments and feedback.
Summer has finally arrived! In true British style everyone is now complaining about how hot it is including the horses at the yard. The warm temperatures bring out the flies, in particular the horse flies that give a nasty bite so Bagel and Bo have both spent most of the last week in their stables during the day where it is nice and cool and fly free!
Pokey and Chewey have loved the warm weather and have spent the days basking in the sunshine! We created two big muddy puddles up in their field for them to cool off in and they have plenty of shady spots to escape the heat. Like us, it is important that they wear sun tan lotion to ensure they don't get burnt. They both love having it rubbed over them, especially behind their ears, and were more then happy to stand still for me while I did it - if only my three children were as accommodating! (See video above).
At home, my chicken Fergie is broody. Broody is when they want their eggs to hatch into chicks. However, we do not have a rooster so the eggs my chickens lay are not fertilised, which means it is impossible for them to hatch into little chicks. Annoyingly for us, while she spends her whole day sitting on eggs that will never hatch, she is not laying herself so we are only getting eggs from Fatty Boom Boom and Gloria.
I have been advised that the only way to stop her from being broody and to get her to lay eggs again is to lock her out of the chicken house during the day. I feel very cruel doing it but her health is deterioting and she needs to get back out in the garden and eat and drink regularly again. Poor Fergie - she just desperately wants to be a mummy!
Have a great week and hopefully a hot and sunny weekend!
