I have just arrived back from feeding the pigs and mucking out Mr Bojangles, and all the animals (including those naughty cats) are enjoying the gorgeous sunshine. Chewey and Pokey's new enclosure in the barn allows the sun to stream in so they were both sound a sleep when I left, sunbathing!
The cats were all stretched out on the top of the hay bales and for the first time in ages, I was able to take Bo's rug off so he could feel the sun on his back and have a good roll in the field.
Last week wasn't so peaceful! Lara called and asked if I could give her a hand catching the cats, as she needed to get them down to the vets so they could all be castrated (this will prevent them from being about to produce any more kittens).
In preparation, she had put a large cage in the feed lorry and inside it, had placed their feed bowl, in the hope that once the cat food was put into the bowl, all the cats would pile in, we could close the cage door and job done....ummmm, not as simple as we had hoped!
Anyway, the cats put two and two together pretty much straight away and proceeded to grab a mouthful of food then run out of the cage again - you will be surprised how quickly a small cat can move! Every time we went to shut the cage door, they were already gone.
After several attempts we finally caught one of the girls. With the cage door firmly shut we assumed we were good to go, but the little monkey managed to find a tiny hole at the top of the cage, that she squeezed herself through. Lara rushed over to grab her before she ran off and in a desperate effort to escape, she scratched and bit Lara's hands to pieces. As I had gloves on I ran over to help out and was bitten myself, not nearly as badly I hasten to add, but enough to break the skin. We decided to admit defeat and let her go! A battle lost, followed by a trip to the doctors to get a tetanus jab! I think it might be a job for the experts who have the right protective clothing to cope with five feral cats!!
Anyway, enjoy the sun while it is here. I will be posting up another update on the puppies on Wednesday. They are getting cuter by the day so a blog not to be missed!
